The Estate

Claydon Estate is a thriving, family-run country estate and has been the ancestral home of the Verney family for over 400 years.

About

The Verney family have resided in Middle Claydon for more than 400 years, and the estate is set within 5,000 acres of rural countryside comprising open fields, parkland, woodland, lakes and gardens.

Central to Claydon Estate, Claydon House, often referred to as “an unexpected Georgian jewel,” was built in the 18th century by the 2nd Earl Verney and is now owned by the National Trust.

Historic family links range from Florence Nightingale (‘Auntie Flo’) to Sir Edmund Verney ‘The Standard Bearer’ at the centre of the English Civil War.

We now have a growing calendar of outdoor events throughout the year, and at the heart of the estate is the delightful 18th century Claydon Courtyard, a hub for food, wellbeing and retail.
